Increasing the fluid intake as a measure for gout treatment besides its preventive role in respect of gouts reduces the risk of developing kidney stone, which the gout patient has higher chances. Abstaining from use of alcohol is due to its diuretic effect resulting in dehydration enhancing the gout attacks. Further alcohol plays its role in uric acid metabolism, which is causing hyperuricemia.
It can be observed from above that alcohol is having two very significant effects which are responsible for worsening of the gout by interfering in uric acid excretion from the kidneys besides it is responsible for occurrence of dehydration. These both factors are contributing in precipitating uric acid crystals and their deposit in joints.
Some of the Dietary changes are helpful in causing reduction of uric acid levels present in the blood. Because the purine chemicals get their conversion into uric acid, the purine-rich diet needs avoidance. The diets rich in purines are made of shellfish and meats of organs like liver, brains, kidneys, and sweetbreads.
